AMETHYST Purpose Award for Influential Leadership

Established in 2018 by the Head of Calumet College (Dr. Jennine S. Rawana) and the former Head of Stong College (Dr. Mazen J. Hamadeh), these awards recognize the outstanding leadership achievements of Peer Leaders, Alumni and Fellows. These individuals embody the values of the Colleges with a vision to embrace the shared responsibility of building a vibrant and bold community and have made significant contributions to Calumet and Stong Colleges (CCSC).

The Amethyst Purpose Award for Influential Leadership was created in 2019 to recognize the significant contributions of our Alumni and Fellows. This award is given to Calumet College and Stong College Alumni and/or Fellows annually at the Colleges’ Award Ceremony in April and underscores the commitment of the Colleges to their shared vision to "Inspire learning, leadership and citizenship".

ELIGIBILITY
Eligible candidates must meet all the minimum criteria outlined below.

- Exhibit the values of Calumet & Stong Colleges: Student-Centric; Collaborative; Mentorship; Engagement; Bold
- Hold a volunteer position, or is affiliated in some capacity with Calumet College and/or Stong College as a volunteer.
- Has graduated from York University with a degree from any of the academic programs formerly and/or currently affiliated with Calumet College or Stong College OR has collaborated with CCSC to strengthen CCSC's community, advance their strategic plan, and/or support student experience and success.

Calumet and Stong College each have their own designated Amethyst award.

Amethyst Purpose Award for Influential Leadership
This award recognizes alum and/or fellows who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the Colleges' mandate/strategic plan, engaged our students and community members, elevated the profile of our Colleges and/or Student Success Programs, positively impacted our community and/or were role models that strengthened or redefined leadership and community engagement.

Application Process

To be considered this award, there are two application process options: 1) Self-submission OR 2) Peer-submission.

1) Self-Submission

Completed applications (Chart of Involvement, Statement Letter & Resume) are submitted directly by the applicant.

A nomination form is required to be submitted by a member of the Colleges community including Colleges’ staff member(s), Peer Leader(s), Fellows or Alumni, excluding College Heads.

A second nomination form is optional and can be submitted by an internal or external member of the Colleges.

2) Peer-Submission:

Completed applications (Chart of Involvement, Statement Letter & Resume) are submitted by an internal or external member of the Colleges' community.

A nomination form is required to be submitted by a member of the Colleges community including Colleges’ staff member(s), Peer Leader(s), Fellows or Alumni, excluding College Heads.

A second nomination form is optional and can be submitted by an internal or external member of the Colleges.

Applicants will need to submit their application package (in one PDF file). In this PDF file, you must include the following in this specific order:


A. Chart of Involvement with the Colleges , 3 columns: Column 1 - Position Title, Column 2 - Date Range (MM/DD/YYYY), Column 3 - Contribution. (Please use Calibri font, 12-point size text) (please use the template found on our website)

B. Alumni/Fellow's Statement Letter describing their involvement in the College(s) and how they have contributed to fostering a culture of social and intellectual growth and building a vibrant community at Calumet, Stong or York University. The letter must be organized into three (3) sections:

1. List the roles and key responsibilities of the applicant within Calumet & Stong Colleges
2. Describe their contribution to the Colleges' Vision, Mission and Values
3. Describe how they have contributed to Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion issues in the Colleges
(max. 500 words, Calibri font and 12-point size text).

C. Alumni/Fellow's Résumé/CV

Nomination Process

To be considered this award, each application requires at least one nomination form submitted by a member of the Colleges community including Colleges’ staff member(s), Peer Leader(s), Fellows or Alumni, excluding College Heads.

A second nomination is optional and can be internal or external to the Colleges' community, excluding College Heads.

Nominators must directly submit nominations using this form by the deadline.
