2019 York Orientation Day (YOD) Volunteer Application Form for Calumet & Stong Colleges

Dear Faculty of Health Students,

Are you looking to upgrade your resume or develop your leadership skills? You’re in luck! Stong and Calumet Colleges invite you to join our York Orientation Day Team! We are looking for energetic, friendly and team-oriented volunteers to join us on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019, to help welcome incoming students into the YU community. This is a great opportunity where you will benefit from:

- Developing leadership skills through tailored training programs
- Expanding professional networks with professors, staff and peers
- Sharpening interpersonal skills through sharing your wisdom and experience
- Increasing volunteer hours on your YU-Connect co-curricular record
- Obtaining transferable skills for your resume (leadership, interpersonal, etc.)


That’s not all! Volunteering for YOD will also make you eligible to be considered for Calumet & Stong Colleges’ Peer Ambassador Program. Peer Ambassadors are the Colleges’ representatives who assist with the implementation of a variety of student success programs throughout the academic year including: Health & Wellness Workshops, Student Welcome Events, Holiday Celebrations, Fall Campus Day, Careers Matter, Peer Leadership Training, and much more. In addition to the above, the benefits of being a Peer Ambassador include:

- Consideration for the Calumet and Stong Colleges Peer Leader Award(s) if you complete your duties
- Consideration for a Letter of Recommendation if you exceed College Heads’ expectations (going above and beyond the call of duty)

POSITION SUMMARY: YORK ORIENTATION DAY (YOD) NEW STUDENT TRANSITION VOLUNTEER
York Orientation Day would not be possible without the help of our dedicated volunteers! York Orientation Day volunteers for Calumet and Stong Colleges are upper-year students who provide a friendly face, warm welcome, and helping hand to students who are new to York in programs affiliated with the Faculty of Health. Orientation is designed to help new students prepare, connect and discover all that York University has to offer.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrive on time and participate in the required training and volunteer dates outlined below
- Act in a manner that is respectful, responsible, and professional at all times
- Be sensitive to the new student experience
- Help students to develop a sense of connectedness with York University and the York community
- Facilitate a variety of program specific activities geared at fostering student success
- Support YOD activities as needed, including but not limited to: set-up and take down, greeting and directing students, registering students, and facilitating small group activities

CORE COMPETENCIES
- Academically successful upper year students
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledgeable of university resources and opportunities for student involvement
- Punctual and reliable
- Demonstrate initiative
- Be flexible and adaptive to taking on different roles throughout the day as needed
- Must be a student within the Faculty of Health (Nursing, Psychology, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Health Policy, Health Management, Health Informatics, Global Health)

MANDATORY DATES FOR GENERAL VOLUNTEERS (Details will be emailed to you as dates approach):
- Must attend YOD General Volunteer Training on Thursday, August 08 @ 9:00am - 6:00pm (Food provided. Time is tentative, the training may be longer).
- Must attend York Orientation Day (YOD) on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 @ 10:00am - 9:00pm (Food provided).

- MANDATORY DATES FOR MEMBERS OF STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS (KAHSSO, NSAY, 2NA, YUNSMP, UPSA, GHSA, SAHMPI, etc.):
- Must attend YOD Peer Leader Training on Thursday, August 01 @ 9:00am - 6:00pm (Food provided. Time is tentative, the training may be longer).
- Must attend YOD General Volunteer Training on Thursday, August 08 @ 3:00pm - 6:00pm (Food provided. Time is tentative, the training may be longer).
- Must attend York Orientation Day (YOD) on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 @ 10:00am - 9:00pm (Food provided).
